I catch myself calling Charlie "Fox" now and then, which is my nephew's name. Way to know my own kid's name, right? Of course, when Fox first arrived I accidentally called him "Pooks" all the time, which was my best friend's kid's baby's nickname. When we have a second kid one day I'm sure I'll be calling them "Charlie".
Luckily, I have a pretty hardcore nickname habit that disguises my shameful inability to recall my only child's first name. Among others, you can find Scott and I using any of the following nicknames every day. Sooner or later I'm sure one will float to the top and become our go-to. For now, variety abounds.

It turns out that Charles is one of those names that is notorious for being traded for a nickname. Scott looked it up last night and found a wildly colorful list of nicknames used for Charles. Charlie is, of course, the simplest and most popular way to shorten Charles. Some more exciting options are: Chaz, Chuck, Chip, Cash, and Chilly. Who knew we had picked such a versatile first name? Just think of all the different personalities those nicknames might suit. I wonder what kind of Charles our Charles will turn out to be?
Oh, one other funny thing we found out: Charles was first popularized by Mary, Queen of Scots, who named her son Charles. Hee hee hee.
